About SCAS
Walks Across South Carolina
The South Carolina Autism Society (SCAS) was founded in 1972 by parents of children with autism. It is the only statewide non-profit organization dedicated to autism programs, family support, advocacy, and research.
The organization has been formed to:
- Provide information, assistance, and resources to families of children with autism;
- Provide support for South Carolina based research and development;
- Promote and raise awareness that one in every 150 births in the United States today is a child with autism and 26,000 of those children and adults live in South Carolina; and
- Educate professionals and the general public.
The purpose of the South Carolina Autism Society is to enable all children and adults in South Carolina who have Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) to reach their maximum potential.
